Under high temperature, ZrSiO4 reacts with alkali metal oxide, the reaction formula is as below:

ZrSiO4+2Na2CO3=Na2ZrO3+Na2SiO3+2CO2

The reaction products are mainly the mixture of Na2ZrO3 and Na2SiO3, in which Na2SiO3 with water solubility can be separated by water-washing, and Na2ZrO3 can be dealt by acid, different types of zirconium salt can be generated with the different types of acid. Generally, soluble zirconium salt is formed, then different zirconium compounds can be made according to the needs of other physical, chemical methods.
