Additives For Refractory Materials
Refractory bricks should be added some additives during the producing process in order to get some special property. The additives contain chromium oxide, silicon carbide, graphite and carbon, and deflocculants.
1. Chromium oxide
Chromium oxide is man-made raw material which is made by ferrochrome sulfonamide. The proportion of chromium oxide is 5g/cc, the particles are very small, and it has bright green color. The melt point of pure chromium oxide is about 2260℃. There are following advantages if chromium oxide is added into refractory material:
A. Chromium oxide has very high refractoriness which can add the high temperature resistance.
B. Chromium oxide can not have chemical reaction which can reduce the environmental erosion reaction.
C. Chromium oxide can increase the strength of alumina oxide.
2. Silicon carbide
Silicon carbide is made of quartz sand at high temperature after carbonization. Silicon carbide is suitable for abrasive materials, the crystal color is light green to green, and it has strong acid resistance, and even can make the hydrofluoric acid dissolution. Silicon carbide has excellent chemical stability and low thermal expansion, so it is always as the additive of refractory material. It is heated in the oxidizing environment or open space and can only bear the temperature of 1300℃. But if in the absence of chemical decomposition of space，it can bear the temperature among 2200℃ to 2245℃.
3. Graphite and carbon
Graphite can be as the additive of refractory because of its high melting point which is about 3500℃, excellent thermal shock resistance and erosion resistance to melting metal and kiln slag.
4. Deflocculants
This kind material is always added into casting material, which can increase the mobility of casting material and separate the polymer of refractory material.
