The Difference Between Insulation Brick And Refractory Brick

Insulation brick is mainly used for insulation and reducing heat loss, generally, insulation brick (mullite insulation brick, fire clay insulation brick, high alumina insulating brick) does not contact with the flame directly. However, refractory brick (zircon brick, fused cast azs block) contacts with flame directly, so refractory brick is mainly applied to withstand flame broiled.   

 

The main difference between insulation brick and refractory brick are as following:

 

1. Insulation property

When the average temperature is at 350 ± 25 ℃, the thermal conductivity of insulation brick is usually at 0.2-0.4 w/m.k, the thermal conductivity of insulation brick is above 1.0 w/m.k, thus can be drawn that the insulation property of insulation brick is better than refractory brick.

 

2. Refractoriness

In general, the refractoriness of insulation brick is below 1400 degree, however refractory brick is above 1400 degree.

 

3. Density

Insulation brick always adopts lightweight thermal insulation material as the raw material, and the density is about 0.8-1.0g/cm3. However, density of refractory brick is usually above 2.0g/cm3.

 

 In conclusion, refractory brick has high mechanical strength, dense structure, long service life, good corrosion resistance, low thermal expansion coefficient, high grinding efficiency, low pollution, excellent chemical stability which means that do not chemically react with the material, and high temperature performance and maximum heat temperature can reach 1900 ℃.

 

In a word, there is a big difference between refractory brick and insulation brick, their using environment, range and role in glass furnace is different, and different place uses different material. So we need to choose proper refractory material according to our own actual situation when choosing refractory for our furnace.
